So after being refused from this years annual show at the Royal Academy in London, I thought I'd try my luck in the NOT the Royal Academy Show in the Llewellyn Alexander Gallery in Waterloo and they accepted my piece! Runs until 17th August!

Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council is delighted to present the 2013 dlr Open Submission Exhibition. This exhibition responds to a desire amongst local artists for exhibition opportunities and allows the public an opportunity to view the wealth of visual arts practice that is happening in Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown.

The submission process was open to artists who have studied in, are originally from, or are living or working in, the Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown area. The exhibition was selected by Dalkey resident and Director of Solomon Fine Art, Tara Murphy. Almost 200 artists applied and it was an exciting and interesting job to select the 47 artists whose work is displayed in the exhibition. The exhibition features a range of work including painting, print, photography and sculpture.

Snapshots: A Journey Through Connemara 11th January – 9th February The Market Place Theatre and Arts Centre, Armagh, Northern Ireland.

New work by artist Leah Beggs is on exhibition in The Market Place Theatre and Arts Centre.

This new series of paintings is based on fleeting glimpses of Connemara captured in a ‘snapshot’ frame of time. Leah’s paintings are inspired by journeys through the Connemara countryside. From the mountains at dawn or the bog at dusk to the beach on a summer’s day, this collection of work will engage the viewer and bring them on a journey through Connemara.

Leah is a visual artist based in Co. Galway. She has exhibited widely in Ireland and this is her first solo exhibition in Northern Ireland.

I just got news that I have been selected for a solo exhibition in the Market Place Arts Centre in Armagh for Jan 2013. It's a fab white cube space in a beautiful purpose built arts centre in the heart of Armagh city.

Looking forward to getting back in the studio to get the work done!

The Art of Fashion

Two of Galway’s best known firms have joined forces to produce a unique exhibition of high fashion, paintings and sculpture.The windows of Brown Thomas’ iconic store in Galway, will be decorated with artworks by a number of artists from The Kenny Gallery. Works by artists Pádraic Reaney, John Behan RHA, Dean Kelly, Michael Gemmell, Katerzyna Gajewska, Leah Beggs, Marja van Kampen and Mick Flaherty will be on show for the month of May. CCA:RDS

In November 2010, the Royal Dublin Society (RDS) embarked on an original project called Collective Contemporary Art: RDS (CCA: RDS), which ran in conjunction with Art Fair 2010. The CCA: RDS exhibition was a showcase for Artists working professionally in Ireland and abroad who did not have continuous and exclusive gallery representation. It was curated by Helen Carey and I was one of the artists selected.

The exhibition was open to collectors, galleries, people working in the Arts sector and the general public. 

The project comprised of the exhibition and sales of Contemporary Art by Artists directly to the public in a selected and curated exhibition, demonstrating that the Arts is an accessible dimension of life in Ireland today through a vibrant and colourful Contemporary Visual Arts culture.

The associated programme of talks and workshops addressed the aspects of exhibition with discussions around collecting, display, exhibition, artistic practice as a curator and as an artist. The aim of the project was to create a new arena which would enhance the already rich landscape of Irish Art for the artist and public alike.

Following a positive response from participating artists and visitors, the RDS hopes to host this initiative as a biennial event with another new exhibition coming in 2012.

Galway Arts Centre, University Hospital Galway and Galway City Museum present ‘Ealaíon At Lunasa’

Galway Arts Centre, Galway University Hospitals Arts Trust & Galway City Museum have joined together to produce a large scale exhibition of Galway artists over 3 venues. Opening on the 30th, audiences will experience 3 large and diverse exhibitions, including painting, print, sculpture, drawing and video. All three exhibitions will run through August until the 29th.

It is unusual to open anything arts related in August, everyone is either on holidays or at least in the holiday spirit. The Galway Races are also a major thing that we associate with the summer. However this year a lot more people are choosing to either stay in Galway or to come here on holidays. In the current climate we felt it was necessary to offer the people of this town something that is free and suitable for everyone, whether they know a lot or nothing about art, there is something for everybody.

The diverse exhibition includes work by established artists such as Siobán Piercy, Declan Holloway, Seán Ó Flaithearta and Joan hogan and also includes emerging artists Maravillas Sola Lopez, Jennifer Cunningham and Eimearjean McCormack. The exhibition celebrates the enormous amount of talent in Galway City and County, and while it is not representative of all the artists living and working in Galway, it does show that there is a wide array of work being made at the moment.

So come along on the 30th July, starting in the University Hospital at 5pm, and celebrate our city of culture. The celebrations will then continue to the Museum at 6pm, before finally finishing up in Galway Arts Centre at 7pm. All are welcome and people of all ages are encouraged to come.

'Centre-line' - Exhibition with Engage Art Studios

Centre – Line is a group multimedia exhibition showing as part of the Volvo Ocean Race Galway Stopover Art Trail. Engage Art Studios is located in the heart of the city and is home to 23 artists working in a diverse range of media, 16 of Engage's artists will exhibit work for Centre – Line which is curated by Victoria Mc Cormack. The show will open on Saturday May 23rd at 4pm at Engage in the Old Cathedral building on Middle Street, the show will run until June 6th and will be open to the public daily between 1-5pm.
